Buying an M1330 for Gaming (Warcraft, DOTA, maybe Starcraft 2)

March 11, 2010

buy starcraft 2OK, so I need a laptop for traveling so it needs to be small (less than 5lbs!!). And the other requirement I had was the ability to play games, like Warcraft 3 (dota) and possibly starcraft 2 in the future (though the specs for this one are not clear yet).

After some research the M1330 seems like a great option with the new SSD and the Led screen, and the dedicated video card.

But, after even more research (rigth here on this forum, and then on other sites as well) I found out there are issues with the GPU overheating.

So, I’m wondering now if it is possible to use the M1330 to play DOTA for say 4-5 hours in a row (on AC power) without burning the laptop, and without opening the laptop up and putting extra thermal grease inside like another topic here describes.

How will B.net Matching system work with SC2?

March 10, 2010

buy starcraft 2Just wondering, I’ve played SC since it came out, same with WC3 and really prefered those games even though I got into WoW when this one game out (about to quit it once again). I’ve started playing SC again more recently (sc2 trailers making me feel like getting back into it) and a bit of WC3.

While I was a stronger WC3 player than SC, I prefer SC because of how much more balanced it is instead of relying on heroes and OP towers.

One thing that I love about WC3 that SC doesn’t have is the match making system with ladder games. Pressing one button to have B.net find you an oponent that is supposed to be of roughly similar skill on a random map is just so great.

Even playing in Iccup for SC, I still waste a lot of time trying to find someone who’s close to my lvl of gameplay. It’s also almost always the same 1-2 maps that are played and when I enter a game, if the oponent is afraid he might lose to me because of rating, he just boots me.

So what I’d like to know is if SC2 will be like WC3 for finding games over b.net. Will there be ratings to match you against similar skilled players (better for both newbies and advanced players)? Will there be a list of fun different Blizzard maps where u can veto a few but be facing oponents randomly on one of those instead of one map being favored where it might give a bit of an advantage to a certain race or matchup (thinking about the old LT with the edge on the side of expansions for terrans to drop tanks).

I really hope this feature will make it into SC2 and I won’t have to spend more time finding games than playing it. Anyone has any information on this yet?
